THE Bahamas government has announced the development of solar powered utilities for eleven of the country's islands as part of the Carbon War Room project, which aims to speed the shift toward renewable energy.

IN a statement, Housing and Environment Minister Kenred Dorsett said officials are holding meetings with representatives from the CWR and the International Renewable Energy Agency to advance the government's energy agenda.

"You would see that a concentrated focus on some of our southern islands has been factored in to ensure that we do not find ourselves focusing on our populated and more developed islands," Dorsett said.

The Bahamas agreed to develop 20 MW of solar energy nationwide as part of the CWR project, backed by billionaire Richard Branson.

Some of the islands included in the solar project are Eleuthera, Andros, Cat Island, Acklins, Bimini, Inagua, Crooked Island, Exuma and Long Island.
